Is WWE Planning a Roman Reigns Heel Turn?

Forced Fed

WWE has been relentless when it comes to their push of Roman Reigns as the next face of the company. They have sacrificed all of their soldiers to him in the ring to further the cause. Despite resounding frustration from the fans, WWE and Vince McMahon don’t seem to be motivated to change their mind. What makes it even more tough to swallow is that for the past 2 years, fans have waited for a much needed Roman Reigns heel turn which would at least serve to further his position in the company and have him feel the crowd reaction that is supposed to be represented by his character. It seemed like no matter how much fans cried out for a change and no matter who grew organically from week to week, we were going to be stuck with a babyface Roman Reigns for the foreseeable future. If the wrestling Gods are looking out for the raging fans then that may all be changing soon.

The Build

After his long run with the Shield and an eventual Seth Rollins heel turn, Roman Reigns was positioned to be the man to challenge the Authority’s hand picked prodigy. He was placed in main event level matches with Rollins, never being able to win the WWE Championship from him. Eventually, due in large part to Rollins’ legitimate knee injury, Reigns was given his WWE Championship run. He was not over with the fans to the point that he could overtake John Cena in merchandise sales and thus had the championship taken from him. He would use the next 2 years to rack up an impressive list of fallen foes. Kane, Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt, The Undertaker, Samoa Joe, Braun Strowman, John Cena, the Miz, and now Brock Lesnar all become the fuel for the final buildup of the Roman Empire.

The Problem

The issue fans have is that they have already chosen who they want to lead the brand into the immediate future and his name is not Reigns. It isn’t even Cena any more. It is Braun Strowman. Braun is the most organically grown and over talent since the rise of Bill Goldberg in WCW. He is more than a huge “Monster Among Men”. He is a athletic freak of nature that imposes his will on all challengers and who has a rabid fan following that is ready to see his ascend to the top of the mountain and claim the WWE Universal Championship. He has all the momentum in the world and all the support of the WWE Universe. There is just one issue. His name is not Roman Reigns.

Finally a Solution

With WrestleMania less than a week away, the entire wrestling world already knows that Roman Reigns will walk out the new WWE Universal Champion. They have known that for the past year when the news of this year’s WrestleMania title change was first reported. WWE’s creative team is so quick to adapt to fans that they left the plan in place all year. Now with the crowd in New Orleans already knowing the outcome of the main event, the uproar and rejection of Reigns as “The Man” is louder than ever. To the pleasure of some of those fans, we may finally have a solution. Rumors have been swirling for the last week or so that WWE may finally be willing to pull the trigger on the Reigns heel turn. Though it isn’t the crowning of Braun Strowman as WWE Universal Champion, it would allow for a renewed feud between the two and offer an opportunity for the fans to watch the chase for the title in an organic way that is reminiscent of the old school NWA days. Let’s just hope that WWE does what truly is “Best for Business” and does the heel turn and pushes Braun to the paramount position in the company.
